Yesterday and today were very exciting for Arviat, we had three polar bears roaming around the bay area, right behind our house. Yesterday a lone male was spotted and the whole town was watching as he wandered across the frozen water. This morning i got up at 6:30 and went outside and about 150 feet away was a mother and cub wandering along the dock area.
It was a good photo opportunity and i have posted some on here.
Hopefully they will leave soon so we can go out with molly the dog and not worry about being eaten.
until next time.

Arviat

Well finally i have a chance to write something on our blog.
We arrived in Arviat on October 6th and it has been crazy ever since. Working at the Northern store is fantastic, we are both enjoying it. The people in the community are so nice and we have been welcomed from everyone.
We managed to go out on the land last weekend when there was no snow and although it is flat around here it is very nice.
Polar bear sightings are coming in thick and fast now, with many sightings in various places around town. We haven't sen any yet, i just hope when we do see one, it is far off in the distance and i can just use my larger lens to take a picture.
Molly the dog is settled in nicely and she is learning to go outside and get back in quickly and i think she will pick up the pace even more as the weather gets colder.
I have put a few pictures on here of the area that i have taken over the last few weeks.
hopefully it wont be 4 weeks before i get on here again, but with the internet around here it could be......

so here goes.

The final week

Today marks 1 week before we leave for Nunavut.
we have an open house today with the hopes that we find a buyer
before we leave.
The weather down here is warm ( going up to 21c today and sunny)
so lets hope for a good turn out.
It seems that we have been so busy getting ready to leave, that
time has disappeared and when we look around there always seems
to be something else we have to ship, pack or arrange.
So its goodbye to the south and Hello to the north.

5 weeks to go

Well finally we have a date when we will be moving north. October 5th .
We travel to Winnipeg, stay overnight and travel on to Arviat NU on the 6th.
I am sure those 2 days traveling will be hectic as we have a dog and we are also bringing our cockatiel Buddy, who will be traveling in the cabin, so i am sure he will be happier than the dog who has to go in the hold of the plane.
The house is looking emptier now and hopefully it will be sold soon.....
we are really looking forward to moving as maybe we will be able to take a moment to stop and rest before we start training at the Northern Store.

NorthWest Company

Hi Rob, Tina and the boys. we are not sure if we are supposed to put an answer to your question on our blog or yours as we are very newbies at the blogging, so we decided to put it on here and then hopefully you will read it.
Andy is going to be a Manager in Training for about a year and Sue is going to work in the store and learn a department Manager position.
It is so good to have found someone else who is working for the same company,we will probably have many questions for you and hopefully you will be able to answer them for us.
we have our email address on our blog so maybe if i have trouble with this blog thingy you could also advise.
we was so surprised when we got a comment on our blog , it was quiet a thrill for us.
we are looking forward to moving up north as soon as possible, but as you know selling a house and pretty much all you have is very hard work and we hope to have the house sold in a few more weeks.
Anyway we better stop talking your ear off (or i guess eyes in this case)
Hope to hear from you guys soon.

This is molly our dog. we hope that she will not get lost in the snow in Arviat when we move.

Getting ready for a move

Hello everyone, well today is Sunday August 10 2008 and this is our first blog.
we are not sure at all if we are doing it right but i am sure we will get better as we go along.
As the heading suggests, we are getting ready to move from wheatley Ontario to Arviat Nunavut. we have put our house on the market and HOPE that we have a quick sale.
We are going up north to work for the North West company, and are looking forward to a very different lifestyle. we have been reading up on life in the north and have found many websites and blog sites and we are pretty sure we know what we are in for in the winter, but we will be able to verify these thoughts when we get there.
If anyone reads this blog and lives in Arviat, we would love to hear from you, and of course anyone else who wants to say hi to us.

Hope to have some more news next time.
Andy & Sue.
